While Mother's Day is celebrated at different times around the world, Merck has designated May as the month to celebrate mothers regardless of where you live. In 2011, we created Merck for Mothers, a 10-year, $500 million initiative focused on improving the health and well-being of mothers during pregnancy and childbirth. We are using our business and scientific expertise to end preventable maternal mortality. This year, we are focusing on the reason for it all: why we care.
We care about quality healthcare.
We care about friends.
We care about families.
We care about mothers.
Through groundbreaking public-private partnerships, Merck for Mothers has helped to improve more than 2,700 health facilities, trained more than 12,000 health workers and provided over six million women with improved access to affordable, quality care. But that is not enough. Merck for Mothers and our 90 partners are committed to a vision where no woman dies giving life.
Our employees across the globe have joined us in the fight to end maternal mortality by committing their time and resources - from organizing post-natal kits events to provide much-needed items to new mothers in Uganda, to hosting used cell phone drives to provide mobile health technology in Nepal.
This May, we each have a reason why we care. Now is time to spread the word and honor mothers and the people who endeavor to make motherhood a safe, healthy, and joyful experience everywhere.
